Live
  1. There are a number of different reasons why you might be having difficulty using your webcam in Live. We've listed some of the most common below, along with possible solutions.

    • If you are currently using your camera somewhere else (Skype, Yahoo Messenger, etc.), it will not be accessible in Live. Always ensure that your camera is not active elsewhere before attempting to play Live.

    • Do you have the latest version of Flash? Check your current version at Adobe's website. If you find that it is outdated, you can get the latest Flash Player at the Flash Player download page.

    • The drivers for your webcam may be out of date. Try checking the manufacturer's website for the latest drivers.

    • Have you installed Google's plugin for voice and video chat, for use in Gmail or other Google products? Are you using a Mac?

Unfortunately, there is a known conflict between that Mac plugin and the most recent versions of Flash Player that can cause other programs, like Live, to be unable to access your camera, even when they should be able to.

The easiest way to resolve this problem is to uninstall the Google plugin. Instructions can be found here.

  2. It's easy to eliminate this annoyance! When you select "Allow" to enable your webcam, click the "Remember" checkbox. From now on, your webcam will be enabled automatically when you come to Live.
  3. The simplest way to find Live partners faster is to use less restrictive filters. For example, if you look for a partner between 21 and 23 years old, it will take longer to find someone than if you look for a partner between 18 and 26. Expanding your geographic filter is a particularly effective way to speed up your search, especially if you live in a sparsely populated area.

Additionally, Gold and Black VIPs are given priority when searching for Live partners. Whenever someone looks for a partner, we first check to see if any suitable VIPs are waiting, and if so, we match them up. The end result is that VIPs find matches faster. If you are not already a Gold or Black VIP, upgrade now to get priority in Live.
  4. To invite a friend to chat and play games with you in Live -- even a friend who's not on MeetMe yet -- copy your Live Chat Link and share it. Your Live Chat Link can be found above your video when you first come to Live, or right under your video if you've already started playing Live.

When someone goes to your Live Chat Link while you're online, you'll receive a notification at the top-right corner of the screen. Just click the link in that notification to join your friend in Live. You can also go to your Live Chat Link yourself to be joined with your friend.

There are also indicators around the site that will let you know if someone is online, such as the green Play Now! links that can be found within Live Feed, a user's action items, Match, and Messages. Click these links and you will automatically send them a MeetMe Live invitation!

To change your preferences for who can go to your Live Chat Link, go to your Settings page.
  5. Absolutely no nudity is allowed in Live.

Users who break this rule will be suspended from Live for a period of time. Explicit or repeated violations will result in the termination of your account.
  6. Your Live Chat Link allows you to invite a specific friend to chat and play games in Live, or for your friend to invite you!

To use your Live Chat Link, just copy it and share it with your friend.

To change your preferences for who can go to your Live Chat Link, go to your Settings page.
  7. Karma is a measure of how good a chat partner you are. You earn Karma by chatting for a while with the same partner, and you lose it by clicking "Next" right at the start of a Live session. There are also Karma penalties associated with being reported for abuse.

If your Karma gets too low, you'll be unable to use Live for a while. During this lockout period, you'll gain 1 Karma point for every 30 minutes until you are able to use Live again.
  8. We value your abuse reports and review every one of them, because we are 100% committed to ensuring a clean and safe experience for all our users in Live.

To report your Live partner, just click the "Report" link above the user's video, then choose the type of abuse you are reporting. A screenshot of the other user's video will be included for moderator review along with your report.
  9. There are reports of a bug within Flash that would cause you to be able to see the Flash Settings pop-up, but be unable to click it. This typically affects users of Firefox; if you are seeing this issue in another browser, please let us know.

As a first step, try clicking here and looking for the "Can't Click Allow?" link underneath the video area. Click that link, and you should then be able to click "Allow".

If this doesn't work, an alternate method is to resize your browser window slightly, then try to click "Allow" again. Note that it may take a few attempts before you find a browser size that allows you to click "Allow", but this method does generally work.

If neither of the solutions above work, go to Adobe's Website Privacy Settings panel for Flash. You'll have to find "canvas.myyearbook.com" in the list, click it, and then select "Always Allow."
  10. Gold and Black VIPs are given priority when searching for Live partners. Whenever someone looks for a partner, we first check to see if any suitable VIPs are waiting, and if so, we match them up. The end result is that VIPs find matches faster. If you are not already a Gold or Black VIP, upgrade now to get priority in Live.
  11. No! You can play Live without a webcam, and you will be matched with other users without webcams. In this way, you can still experience the excitement of meeting people and playing games in Live!
  12. Unfortunately, the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player contains a bug that causes Flash applications like Live to be unable to access the webcam on a Mac, when certain third-party plugins have been downloaded. Plugins known to cause problems include the Google Camera Adapter and ManyCam.

Until Adobe releases a version of Flash Player that does not contain this bug, the easiest way to resolve the problem will be to remove these third-party plugins from your system. To do this:

Step 1: Using Finder, navigate to your hard drive (typically "Macintosh HD").

Step 2: Open the "Library" folder.

Step 3: Open the "QuickTime" folder.

Step 4: Delete any files that contain "Google Camera" or "ManyCam" in the name.

Step 5: Refresh your internet browser to reload MeetMe Live. Your webcam should now be available for use in Live.
  13. If you and your Live partner both have cameras enabled, you have the option to take a Live Snapshot of what is happening on screen.

Click the orange camera icon to start a countdown that will take a picture once the time is up. You will then be given the option to post it directly into your Live Feed or even share it to other social streams such as Facebook and Twitter.

There is no limit to the amount of snapshots you can take in a day.
  14. To use the Live Snapshot feature, both users must have their cameras enabled and must both allow Live Snapshots.

  10. Back in 2005, we started myYearbook in our high school as a way to make new friends. Today, people of all ages use it for the same purpose: we're now the largest service for meeting new people in the United States, and we're growing fast in many other countries too.

Yet the name "myYearbook" makes most people think of reconnecting with old classmates, not making new friends. So at long last, we decided to change the name to something that says what our service really means, even to people who haven't used it yet.

MeetMe was the clear winner over hundreds of other potential names, based on feedback from many thousands of members. Everything you love about myYearbook will still be at MeetMe -- you may not even notice a difference!
